Twin brothers, Elijah “Smoke” and Elias “Stack” Moore, World War I veterans who return to their hometown of Clarksdale, Mississippi, after working for the Chicago Outfit. Using stolen money, they purchase a sawmill from a racist landowner, Hogwood, and plan to transform it into a juke joint for the local Black community.
